My support for the arts is relentless
Hey, I’m Justin!
I know the value of creative talent, and want to be sure it isn’t taken advantage of.
In my opinion, the freelance world is like the Wild West. It’s a place with little order, where creatives and their clients battle it out over deadlines, deliverables and compensation. Misunderstandings can be debilitating and costly. Having a Left Brain in your arsenal maximizes value and minimizes risk. My goal is to make your life more comfortable and prosperous.
From an early age, my closest friends have been creative people - painters, singers, writers, fashion designers. Along the way, I noticed that artists spend too much time on non-creative tasks, and oftentimes struggled with the business side of their crafts. One by one, I watched them attempt to make money from their talents, only to run into a wall for one reason or another. These “right brain-ers” were hamstrung by matters outside creative. This is when I began to moonlight as an artist’s problem-solver. Eventually, in 2009, I converted my passion for helping artists into Left Brain Power, where I help creative people make the most of their talents.
Since then, my left brain has served a wide variety of artists. In some, the chemistry was so strong that we co-founded businesses. Out of one partnership with a web developer, a lucrative web business formed, generating over $21,500,000 in revenue. Another instance was where a playwright and I collaborated to start a production company, creating new theatrical work that expands the craft and practice of playwriting.
In 2018 I turned my focus to the world of entertainment. I produced three short films; raising funds, recruiting celebrity talent, hiring crew, managing logistics, creating marketing and social media plans, and handling behind-the-scenes admin (banking, taxes, insurance). On stage, I co-produced one Broadway and two off-Broadway plays and musicals. One of which was a 40-person immersive experience. Somehow I didn’t lose my shirt, or my nerve to stretch myself helping artists. These experiences strengthened my abilities within the creative community, and drove me to do more.
The success of Left Brain Power - on and off stage - is a testament to the value I bring to creative partnerships, by clearing a path for the artists to do what they do best. It’s a nuanced role that is complex in many ways because ultimately, it’s a job about people, and people are complex. Every artist has their own set of dreams and challenges. I find my role is to learn what they are good at, and to fill in areas where they are not. It’s important to be sensitive to the artist and their process, so knowing when and how to jump in is essential.
Think of me as your business handyman. I will handle paperwork, draft or edit text, negotiate terms, manage clients, analyze the market, handle banking, design and execute social media, or offer guidance. And at every turn, I will be your cheerleader. Together, we can elevate what you create!
